How do I know if I need a special education attorney?

  • Some indicators that you may benefit from the services of a special education attorney include:​​

    • Your child needs an Independent Educational Evaluation (IEE)

    • You and/or your child’s educators suspect that your child has a disability but your school district has not evaluated your child in order to properly identify the disability

    • Your child is not receiving appropriate services and supports in light of their circumstances

    • Your child has a disability and has been disciplined due to behavior that is a manifestation of their disability

    • Your child’s school has not created appropriate goals in your child’s Individualized Education Program (IEP)

    • Your child’s school has not implemented all or part of your child’s IEP

    • Your child is not being educated in the least restrictive environment (LRE)

    • Your child’s school is not considering your input as the child’s educational rights holder

    • Your child’s school is not including you or other required members of IEP teams in IEP/Admission Review and Dismissal (ARD) meetings

    • Your child has a disability and is being excluded from educational instruction or extra curricular activities at school
